Arris Router Settings for Best Speed

Known for its easy-to-use features, the Aris Router can be a reliable way to connect to the Internet. Asides from having great performance, the Arris Router offers decent speed for work or play. But if the speed does not meet your needs, you can make some improvements by using some settings.

Now the question comes – how can you get the best Internet speed with the Arris router?  Well, you can start by using the tips listed below. Now let’s get started and take a look.

Arris Router Settings for Best Speed

If you are using an Arris DG1670A router, try the following settings:

  • Switch off the 5Ghz line
  • Deactivate all the options under the 5Ghz
  • Set the router to N
  • Activate WMM
  • Switch off the firewall

If you are using other Arris routers, you can try the following settings to improve your speed. As some of these tips ( the technical ones) might affect have an unwanted effect on your network, contact Arris customer service for advice. 

1. Change the  WiFi Channel

On the waves, WiFi  2.4G or 5 G channels tend to be congested and suffer slow internet. But with the Arris router interface, you can switch to less congested channels and improve your internet speed.

To change the WiFi channels for 2.4G:

  • Launch your browser 
  • Visit http://192.168.0.1/ 
  • Type “admin” into the User Name field 
  • Type “password” into the Password field
  • Go to the left-hand menu
  • Click on Connected Devices- Devices to confirm if the channel is on 2.4 G
  • Choose Troubleshooting- Wifi Analyser
  • Look at the 5 GHz section for the least congested section
  • Return to the left-hand menu and choose Gateway – At a Glance
  • Click on Gateway – Connection- WiFi Edit 2.4 GHz
  • Go to the Channel Selection field and pick Automatic bullet point
  • Exit settings and restart the router to switch channels

To change the WiFi channels for 5G:

  • Launch your browser 
  • Visit http://192.168.0.1/ 
  • Type “admin” into the User Name field 
  • Type “password” into the Password field
  • Go to the left-hand menu
  • Click on Connected Devices- Devices to confirm if the channel is on 5G
  • Choose Troubleshooting- Wifi Analyser
  • Look at the 5 GHz section for the least congested section
  • Return to the left-hand menu and choose Gateway – At a Glance
  • Click on Gateway – Connection- WiFi Edit 5 GHz
  • Go to the Channel Selection field and pick Automatic bullet point
  • Exit settings and restart the router to switch channels

2. Restart the Router

As with other brands of routers, you can restart the Arris model to increase its speed. To reboot the latter, you can use a physical button or router web interface.

If you want to use the physical button:

  • Head to the back of the Arris router to find the Reset button 
  • Use a straightened paper clip or any pointed item to press the button for 15 seconds
  • Wait for the reset process to be complete

If you want to use the router web interface:

  • Launch your browser 
  • Visit http://192.168.0.1/ 
  • Type “admin” into the User Name field 
  • Type “password” into the Password field
  • Scroll to Security or Utilities 
  • Choose the factory reset option
  • Allow the router to reboot

3. Keep Your Arris Router in the Right Position

Keeping your Arris router on your bookshelf might look cool. But the enclosed space might block signals and slow down your data connection. Instead of using it inside the shelf, place it on top or on a table. 

4. Avoid Walls Between the Router and the Target Device

Passing through walls can be a tough job for WiFi signals. So if you are aiming for improved Internet, avoid walls between the router and network device. 

5. Maintain the right distance

Keeping a distance of around 1-2 meters between the router and certain items can help improve the Internet speed. Such items include electric wires, security lights, and baby monitors. 

6. Update your Router

If your Arris router feels too slow, you might have to update its firmware. To perform this task:

  • Launch your browser 
  • Visit http://192.168.0.1/ 
  • Type “admin” into the User Name field 
  • Type “password” into the Password field
  • Check the firmware version on the interface
  • Open another page on your browser
  • Visit arris.com/support
  • Navigate to the Get Software option on the page
  • Search and download the firmware version as seen in the 5th step
  • Save the file 
  • Return to the router interface and go to choose Status- Router Upgrade
  • Click on Browse to pick your downloaded file
  • Click on Upgrade and wait for the file to be installed
  • Allow the system to be updated and restart automatically

7. Use the QoS Settings of Your Router

Do you make video calls and play online games at the same time? If yes, then these activities might slow down your internet. But if you prioritize your tasks with the QoS setting, it would make things faster.
